Installing the Shelta Beta

About 3 minutes to install

Since Shelta is currently in beta, you'll install it through Apple's TestFlight app instead of the regular App Store. Don't worry — it's simple, safe, and takes just a few minutes.

What is TestFlight?

TestFlight is Apple's official app for trying out new apps before they're available in the App Store. It's made by Apple, completely free, and safe to install. This is how all iPhone and iPad apps are tested before release — it's the same process used by millions of beta testers.

What You Need

Child's Device

An iPhone or iPad running iOS 17 or later.

Internet Connection

Wi-Fi or cellular to download TestFlight and Shelta.

About 3 Minutes

Just to install. Full setup takes about 5 more minutes.

1

Install TestFlight

Get Apple's testing app on your child's device

On your child's iPhone or iPad, open the App Store and search for "TestFlight" by Apple. It's free.

How to spot it:

TestFlight has a blue-and-white icon with a small plane. It's published by Apple Inc. — make sure you're downloading the official one.

2

Open the Invite Link

Tap the link from your invitation email

Open the beta invite link from your email on your child's device. Safari will open and ask if you'd like to open it in TestFlight — tap Open.

Important:

Make sure you open the link on the child's device, not yours. Shelta needs to be installed on the device you want to protect.

3

Accept & Install

Install Shelta from TestFlight

In TestFlight, you'll see "Shelta - Family Safety". Tap Accept, then Install. The app will download in about 30 seconds.

You're Almost There

Once installed, you'll see the Shelta app on the home screen just like any other app.

4

Open Shelta & Set Up

Continue with the setup process

Tap Open in TestFlight (or find the Shelta app on the home screen). You'll walk through a short welcome, then enter the setup code from your dashboard.

Next step:

Follow our Getting Started guide for the rest of setup — entering the setup code, approving protection, and choosing what to block. It takes about 5 minutes.

Good to Know

  • Beta apps update automatically. When we release improvements, TestFlight will install them for you — no action needed on your part.

  • Easy feedback. Take a screenshot inside the app and TestFlight will prompt you to send it to us with your comments. You can also shake the device to report an issue.

  • Beta builds expire after 90 days, but we release updates well before then. When Shelta launches on the App Store, we'll help you switch over seamlessly.
